Prior to his career in film production, Levinson worked as a screenwriter for the television series Laverne & Shirley. He then worked for Cannon Entertainment and wrote the movie Mission in Action 2. Levinson also made a cameo appearance in the 1994 film Gambler V: Playing for Keeps as a card player.
