He was born in Lynwood, California in March 1960 and is best known for being the drummer of the Christian heavy metal band Stryper. Robert and his brother Michael founded the band, which formed in 1983 and broke up in 1993 before reuniting in 2003.
Aside from Stryper, Sweet has played with King James and Shameless amongst other bands. He is known for his drums being set up on the side of the stage instead of in the back.
