Alabama worker falls to his death while inspecting Ring of Fire ride

A worker has fallen to his death while inspecting the safety of a ride at a fair in Alabama. The 45-year-old man has not been named but officials say he is from Belarus. He died on Wednesday while inspecting the ride at the Kiwanis Club Fair in Alexander City.

The 45-year-old man has not been named but officials say he is from Belarus. He died on Wednesday while inspecting the ride at the Kiwanis Club Fair in Alexander City.

It was not in use at the time and the fair remained opened after his death. 

The man fell about 30ft to his death after being asked by the ride operator to climb up and check a wheel which didn't look right, ABC reports.

It was not the ride he normally inspected and when the normal inspector returned and saw him, he told him to climb back down. 

That is when the victim slipped and fell to his death, the coroner said. 

The ride is operated by Primetime Amusements. Others rides include the Frenzy, the Hurricane and the Kite Flyer.

Ring of Fire is a towering, 60ft ride which turns riders upside down as it hurls them around its central loop. 

They are fastened in with over-the-shoulder restraints. 

Primetime Amusement claims on its website that all of its safety inspectors check the rides every day. 

'Inspectors are provided with a daily maintenance checklist that is specific to each ride and highlights certain areas of that ride to inspect.

'After our internal inspections are complete, rides are also inspected by local authorities as well as state inspectors,' it claims. 

It is not known what safety precautions are put in place for the inspectors themselves. 

It is also not clear if the man worked for Primetime Amusements or a different authority. 

Primetime Amusements did not respond to requests for comment on Thursday afternoon.
